I recently went through and ordered some student requested books and some award-winning books to use up the year’s book fine money. With those funds, one of those award-winning (Goodreads Choice Awards 2017 and Kirkus Best Books 2017) is Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia. I read it in one night...I just couldn’t put it down.
Eliza is a very solitary high school student, who feels like she doesn’t fit in with her peers or her family. In order to cope, she joins an online fandom, and eventually begins her own webcomic. It becomes super-famous and successful, but Eliza is able to keep her involvement anonymous. Eventually, a new kid moves to her school with secrets of his own. As they become friends, will Eliza be able to keep up with her online series? Will she be able to keep her success a secret? What if people find out? I guess you’ll have to check this book out and read it.
